Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso delivered his 2025 State of the Borough address at Boys and Girls High School in Bedford-Stuyvesant, bringing together more than 800 New Yorkers to reflect on Brooklyn’s progress and future. Addressing the challenges facing New York City, Borough President Reynoso called for a return to the city’s roots as a place of bold ideas, innovation, and investment in its communities.
For this year’s event, the creative direction centered around the theme “Looking Back”—a visual reflection on Borough President Reynoso’s personal connection to Brooklyn and his journey as a lifelong New Yorker. The branding incorporated personal photography, including images of his family and experiences growing up in the borough, creating a more intimate and authentic narrative around his leadership and vision.
I was responsible for developing the visual design for the presentation slide deck, working alongside the team to create a system that felt uniquely connected to Brooklyn’s identity. Inspired by the borough’s iconic subway infrastructure, we developed a ceramic tile-inspired design language influenced by the visual style of major Brooklyn train lines, such as the 2 and 4 trains. The use of these familiar transit elements created a sense of place while reinforcing the idea of Brooklyn as a borough shaped by movement, history, and community.
Through thoughtful collaboration and a focus on storytelling, the final presentation design helped bring the “Looking Back” theme to life while honoring both the Borough President’s personal journey and Brooklyn’s rich cultural identity.
